TERMINATOR SALVATION

One of the best uses of the landing page as a communication tool. Conceptually driven and to the point.

SYMBOLS THAT STAND FOR THEMSELVES
SYMBOLS THAT STAND FOR THEMSELVES
By
Roy Wagner
Excerpt from: Too Definite for Words
... The distinction here is not a trivial one, because all words, and all symbols, insofar as they are points of reference, can be considered "namings". It is clear that both modes of viewing symbols, as coding and as analogy, have a certain potential, and that the construction of an explanatory microcosm called "structure" realizes only part of the potential...
( using something, to make something else still leaves the result, open to individuals respective interpretation )
... Dealing with primitive elements that are themselves configurations, our problem is very much the opposite of the semioticist or structuralist, who seeks to determine the manifold systematics by which elemental units are combine so as to construct complexity. Appropriate transformation ("how to paint"), rather than accurate reconstruction (or deconstruction) is my goal...
( using a concept to create a concept, everything in essence, is contrived from something else. )
... Such a generic need not be a determinant, or a picture, or a structure, of "culture," but rather what we could call an image of our own "interpretation," and hence of meaning.
( despite one's best effort, some will not see what a majority of people–may see )
A single metaphor, regardless of its scope, invariably presents the enigma of what Freud called "condensation"–a richness of potentially elicited analogies, all at once, that makes the "reading" of the expression, or the fixing of its intent, a matter of the interpreter's own selection.
... using the pattern or tendency of other associated tropes as guides in the interpolative interpretation of a particular example.
( the surveyor is comparing and contrasting the experience of the art or 'object' and constructing a perception based in their previous perceptions of something they consider related )

WHAT I MEAN TO SEARCH FOR IS–?
Semantic URLs:
It is not proven to improve SEO anymore than usability testing proves a successful website before launch, but it does improve user/prospect retention and brand equity overall.
By nature of the web, rank and indexing ( when not paid for with placement ) is powered by empirical search and the relevancy of the content. Semantics(web) is still as convoluted in many cases, as semantics(human-syntax) or semiotics. It is a matter of content and context. Does the name/terms relate to the experience, message, product, idea or service? Does it relate to a mass-majority in a way that several people remember the experience, message, product, or services–in the same way?
As a few have mentioned already, using semantic URLs improves search–for the human, not always for the bot. Indexing is important because it serves as a summary of the 250-500 words generally crawled by spiders. This little snippet of content ('x') is then empirically categorized by it's relationship to other published content (z,g,j,k) considered to be closely related. Or users, through search ( user searches for 'H'), have chosen content x (over z,g,j,k) enough times for a search engine to calculate that it is the closest thing *every user may consider relative to their initial query (H).
The promises of the Semantic Web hope to resolve this issue however; it is still ( and might always be ) a matter of the message, the vehicle for the message and how easily your prospects relate and retain the information. Ultimately–how well it resonates with your prospect ( people ).
What is easier to remember: The "SuperXdfg-345" campaign or: "The Wassup Guys".
Subsequently, now look at how a bot will need to try and figure out the 'semantics' of SuperXdfg-345 in relationship to all the other content published on the web.
As efficient as it may seem ( as is the case with most technology upon its initial introduction ), we find ourselves trying to bring the technology back around to function more like us.
